Social Media Strategy:

According to Open Secrets, Alex Padilla has spent $449,275 on Media and $553,331 on fundraising. Alex Padilla gets his message out to voters on his very active Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook accounts. Padilla's Instagram conveys his homestyle as a family man, raised by working-class parents, and being a Mexican American. On Instagram, he frequently posts about his family and many of his posts highlight his Mexican roots. His heritage contributes to his position taking on advocating for more immigrant reforms and expanding protections towards the undocumented, which is highlighted in his campaign slogan "Defending the Dream."

Alex Padilla does connect with the professional sports crowd as is an avid LA Rams fan. He even went as far as to make a bet with Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) that if the Rams lost the Super Bowl title he would give him Porto Bakery's guava pastries, if the Bengals lost then Senator Brown would give him Cincinnati's Greaters Ice Cream (Facebook). This interaction contributes to Padilla's approachable and personable character.

On Facebook and Twitter Padilla encourages voter engagement by adding "share if you agree" to many of his posts. Furthermore, on Facebook and Twitter Padilla will actively criticize Republicans and express his disdain for many of their initiatives. Padilla seeks to maintain a strong connection with his electorate by frequently posting press releases on current events. More recently, Padilla has created three press releases on the Russian invasion of Ukraine (padilla.senate.gov). Alex Padilla frequently updates his constituents with his stance on current events such as stating his agreement with President Biden's Supreme Court nomination (padilla.senate.gov).

Through Padilla's use of press releases and social media accounts, Padilla participates in position taking on key issues his campaign seeks to represent. For instance, Padilla has introduced the Housing for All Act and is a strong proponent of the Green New Deal. Padilla traveled to Sacramento, California live-streamed on Facebook his announcement of the Housing for All Act.

Alex Padilla also partnered with Senators Jon Osoff and Mark Kelly to ban congressional stock trading (Facebook). As far as other institutional reforms go, Padilla is a vocal opponent of the filibuster. Furthermore, Padilla has emphasized the importance of reinstating the Child Tax Credit as means of keeping children out of poverty. Padilla is co-sponsoring a bill with Senator Elizabeth Warren called the Ultra-Millionaire Tax Act to better distribute the tax burden (Facebook).

Visiting the District:

Padilla's largest visit to his district was last summer during the month of June where he traveled around the state of California on his Infrastructure Listening Tour where he discussed the impact Biden's infrastructure bill would have on Californian and he was able to better evaluate where California could use infrastructural assistance (padilla.senate.gov).

*San Fransico: Padilla visited Mission Kids and discussed the American Rescue Plan Act and the funding is provided for child care and family support (padilla.senate.gov). He also emphasized the nationwide shortage of childcare and highlighted his co-sponsorship of Universal Child Care and Early Learning Act. This is important as 60% of Californians live in a childcare desert. The bill would provide every family access to affordable childcare and early learning opportunities. Following are some cities Senator Padilla visited.

*Sacramento: Alex Padilla visited California ISO to discuss the necessity of investment in our power grid. Specifically, he explained the need to increase funding to electricity providers so they can protect their facilities against extreme weather events or natural disasters (padilla.senate.gov). He discussed his POWER on Act, which provides federal funding for these purposes.

*Los Angeles: Senator Padilla paid a visit to the Los Angeles Metro Excavation to discuss the value of accessible and reliable public transportation. Padilla voiced the need for cleaner transportation technology and revealed his cosponsored bill BUILD GREEN Infrastructure and Jobs Act, which invests $500 billion to transition all public transportation to being electric (padilla.senate.gov).

*San Bernardino: Vice President Kamala Harris met Alex Padilla in San Bernardino to announce the funds from the Infrastructure and Jobs Act distributed to help California manage and prevent wildfires. Additionally, Padilla introduced two bills, the FIRE Act and the Disaster Equity and Fairness Act designed to reform the government's response to wildfires and to ensure that resources for disaster response and allocated equitably (padilla.senate.gov).

Constituent Services:

Padilla has hosted various virtual town halls to gauge the insight of his constituents, which coincides with his delegate leadership style. On February 24th, Senator Padilla partnered with CPSFJ, El Concilio, and GSO to host an informational session on everything that "community members need to know about filing their taxes" (Facebook). Senator Padilla also hosted a town hall forum with Representative Sarah Jacobs to discuss the benefits San Diego will reap from Biden's infrastructure bill and discuss the importance of improving access to childcare.

President Biden's Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act includes Padilla's legislation to improve Indian Health infrastructure, improve electrical grids, guarantee clean drinking water to all Californians and electrify public transportation. In a press release, Padilla said "I'm particularly excited that this legislation includes some of the first bills I introduced as a United States Senator and will improve the lives of Californians." Padilla's social media updates of his progress on the bills he is seeking to pass serve as credit claiming.
